Kelbrook & Sough
Kelbrook and Sough lies on the A56 between Skipton and Colne. It is in a rural part of Northeast Lancashire, although, prior to the boundary changes of 1974 it was in West Yorkshire. The villages grew from a collection of farms in the 18th century to small “mill villages” in the 19th century. The 20th and 21st centuries saw farming continue but the cotton industry gave way to light engineering.
Kelbrook is the main part of the community with approximately 250 houses and Sough, 100. The majority of the population live in terraced houses. In Kelbrook and Sough besides the Village Hall there is:
- A petrol filling station with shop
- A primary school with pre and after school facilities (website)
- A children’s play area adjacent to Kelbrook school
- Two public houses, ‘The Craven Heifer’ in the village and the ‘Old Stone Trough’
- Kelbrook Fisheries
- A parish church – St Mary’s (CoE)
- A riding stables
- Kelbrook Pottery
- Kelbrook Shooting Lodge
- A park with football pitches, children's play area, skate park and bowling green in Sough
The Hall is in the centre of Kelbrook with the Parish Church nearby and fronts onto Dotcliffe Road. To the rear of the Hall there is an open field.
